Okay, if you noticed an absense of content for the last few days its cause I’ve been sick. I don’t handle being sick very well. Caving in to the sickness and crawling into a hole to suffer in my misery. I’ve pulled through. Doing well now.
On another note, I’ve worked out a good editing format with my wife. We were running into problems where she was not liking me editing her work and I wanting to help out as much as I can. She as a different approach to her stories than I do. We were sharing a soft copy of the document on a jump drive however it was reasonably stressful. My wife was always wanting to know what I was doing with the work and afraid that I would change her style and ruin the story. Despite saving the story as a new copy each time with the date in the name there seemed to be difficulty in tracking which copy we were working from.
So the change has been to print the copy. From now on I edit with pen and paper on a printed copy and she makes the changes on the digital copy. This way, I can put in comments, squiggles and such on the paper and she can accept what I put in what ever way that she deems neccesary without fear that I’m changing her story. Crazy how simple it is.

This morning I don’t feel well. This year I had the flu shot however today I’m miserable. So much so that I think I’ll be heading home early today from work. I might not have come in at all except that there are some people at the office that I need to talk with this morning before the weekend. Dang weekends.

Today we had a great dump of snow. The only impact it has had on my life so far is that my bus was running a little late today. Fortunately the temperature has been warm despite the snow.

The other day I came to a sudden fear. To help better understand what suddenly gave me concern, I must explain my writing habbits. I never seem to have loads of time to dedicate to writing so I’ve found a time which is just my own. I take public transportation each day to get to work and back and the ride is quite lengthy. So I’ve found that this is moment which I have to myself which I can leverage to write. I used to write in the morning and in the afternoon on both trips. In the last month I’ve found that I haven’t been able to be as creative in the morning so I’ve given that one over to meditating in the morning and have left the return trip for writing. It reduces my writing time over all however I find that my writing is more productive on the return trip because of it. Anyways, I was doing some thinking about what ever it was that popped into my head and suddenly it occured to me that since I use pen and paper to write, the only copy of my current story is in the notebook which I am writing in. I’ve been using pen and paper despite being a computer professional since I wasn’t looking forward to juggling a laptop while I write on the bus. Also, the last time I tried juggling a laptop on a bus I found that my startup and shutdown time consumed too much of the precious battery and of the general trip. So given that my story is on paper and I’ve written enough to exhaust the ink in one pen and have started draining the ink from a second pen, I figure I would be crushed if I ever lost my notebook with my story. I think this would have an extra impact on me given the way that the story has been unravelling onto the paper.

As I get into my next scene which is essentially my second sex scene, I’m finding that it isn’t starting the way I thought it would. Of all the wonders, it is actually transitioning better than I thought it would. My novel is not an erotic novel however there are two crucial sex scenes which build much of the premis for my story. Part of me wants to dish out a bit of erotica in the story just to add some flavour and part of me doesn’t want to discourage my audience. I may not have an audience which would appreciate such spice.

I’ve never hid my enthusiasm for Linux. My favourite distribution by far has been SuSE. There were a few rough spots when Novell took over but in general I’ve been happy with the direction that SuSE goes. One observation that I’ve made is that SuSE tends to make more of an effort to integrate into a Microsoft Windows centric world. Microsoft has a gigantic share of the OS market and because of this it is obvious that there are going to be a good deal of Microsoft based networks. As experience can tell, the world isn’t crashing down the Linux door asking to be let in. There is however a keen interest on trying out Linux and many that do have found themselves pleasently surprised. I believe much of the success and acceptance of Linux in the modern world will stem from general acceptance that Linux can work well with existing frameworks. SuSE has been making vast strides to accomplishing this.
I’ve been waiting for the right moment to try out OpenSuSE 10.2. One of my long anticipated features has at last arrived. OpenSuSE 10.2 will allow you to join the OS to an existing Windows Domain during installation without having to go through significant tweeks and modifications and how-to scripts. Not only that, simply enough it will also allow for authentication through your Windows Domain too. This means that I can install a SuSE Linux box on a Windows Domain and have it behave on the network as well has other systems on the domain.
I love it.

I figure it must be my writing style. I spent yesterday going over in my head how the next section of my book was to go. When I got down to writing it, I found that it flowed differently than I expected. It works, don’t get me wrong about that, but I just find that when it comes out my pen onto the paper that the way it comes out is not the path that I cut out in my cookie cutter shape. I still get a cookie and the cookie still represents the object that I want but the shape is slightly different. Think of it like drawing (for those of us that cannot draw). You think of all the things that you need to draw to make the image come out looking great. Then you try to put what you vision on paper but it doesn’t turn out how you pictured it. Still the same object you wanted to draw but not quite the way you were intending to draw it.

This morning I found that it was just too cold to write. I’m at a stage where I’m moving on to the next chapter in my story and the chapter will start to bring the basis for an unlikely relationship to start between two of my main characters. This chapter has to be written in a specific way to bridge the unknown existing relationship that the two characters share to the realization of one of the characters of the need to forge a tighter more interactive relationship with the other character. I wish to write this transition as smoothly as I can. This will not be a sudden turn around to the reader but as the author I realize that this is one of the turning points in the story. It is fundamental to the ground work I am about to lay for the relationship to bloom and solidify. So, instead of writing this morning, I contemplated how this next chapter should come across.

One of the things I haven’t figured out yet is how to get into the extreme visibility without extreme investment in social groups. Perhaps that is the answer. I must get involved more in social writing groups to enter the realm of visibility.

Okay, I’m so excited about my new blog location that I just had to write another post. I didn’t really think that I was going to be hyped up about using a different provider but after having done a bit of configuring and importing my old blog, I’m impressed.
